Is a 6×4 chassis enough? For most jobs, yes.
But some jobs push even a 6×4 to its limit – climbing grades with a full concrete load, the single front axle loses traction, the steering goes light. Mount large superstructures and all the weight shifts to the rear – the front end floats, brakes nosedive, corners push wide. Work in mines or large construction sites all day, and you can hear the chassis groaning under the stress.
The Chengli 8×4 Chassis is built for these “extreme duty” conditions.
This is not an upgraded 6×4. This is a true heavy-haul platform with tandem front axles. Two 7.5-tonne front axles handle steering and braking. Two 16-tonne rear axles carry the load. Four axles distribute the weight – total chassis capacity exceeding 47 tonnes. Mixers, pump trucks, fire trucks, large dumpers, truck-mounted cranes – mount them all. The chassis stays rock-solid.

The Heart – Enough Power?
-
Engine: HM615.47, 371 HP
-
Fuel injection: Mechanical direct injection (inline pump) – tolerant of lower-grade fuel, simple to service, and trusted by every construction crew
-
Emission standard: China II (Euro II equivalent) – simple, robust, no electronic restrictions, cheap to maintain. The reliable choice for heavy work.
-
Transmission: 19712, 12-speed – two more gears than the 10-speed. Smoother starts under heavy loads, more economical cruising at highway speeds.
-
PTO: 50 Direct-mount PTO – delivers power directly to superstructure equipment
371 HP + 12-speed box + mechanical direct injection – in the construction world, this powertrain combination has almost no rival in reliability and adaptability. China II emission standard means no electronic system restrictions, tolerant of varied fuel quality, and inexpensive repairs.
The Frame – Built Like a Fortress
-
Frame: Double-layer (8+8/300) – two 8 mm steel plates laminated to 16 mm total thickness. Heavy loads – no twisting, no bending, no cracking.
-
Front axles: Tandem 7.5-tonne front axles (drum) – notice: tandem front axles! Two 7.5-tonne axles side by side – total front axle capacity 15 tonnes.
-
Rear axles: Tandem 16-tonne rear axles (drum) – two 16-tonne rear axles – total rear axle capacity 32 tonnes.
Tandem front 15 tonnes + tandem rear 32 tonnes = four-axle total capacity exceeding 47 tonnes.
What does this mean in practice? A 6×4 chassis has only one front axle – under heavy loads on grades, front axle traction drops and steering goes light. The 8×4 with tandem front axles has two axles gripping together – steering is stable, braking is stable, cornering is stable, climbing is stable. This is what a real heavy-haul chassis looks like.

Leaf Springs – Built to Take the Weight
Four axles + tandem front + tandem rear + double-layer frame + heavy-duty springs – this chassis specification is literally the ceiling for construction truck platforms.
Steering & Braking
-
Steering gear: Factory-equipped 8118 steering gear
-
Brake system: Without ABS – experienced construction operators know that ABS can be a hindrance in extreme off-road conditions. A simpler, direct brake system is more reliable and easier to maintain in the field.
Air Intake & Fuel System
400-litre tank – work all day at the job site without leaving to refuel.
Wheelbase – You Tell Us How Long
Wheelbase is customised to your requirements – no fixed dimensions.
How long is your superstructure? We’ll match the wheelbase to it. Four-axle design means more flexible weight distribution – even long superstructures ride stable.
The Cab – Comfortable, Work-Ready
-
New front-face design – modern, commanding presence
-
Upgraded cab – optimised interior space, better visibility
-
Heating & cooling A/C – no sauna in summer, no freezing in winter
